Job Title: Health and Safety Officer

We are excited to introduce a new opportunity for a Health and Safety Officer to help drive our safety initiatives forward. In this role, you will lead and oversee health, safety, and wellness programs across all store locations. You will travel regularly to ensure compliance with safety standards, provide guidance and training, and cultivate a strong culture of workplace safety and well-being.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take charge of health and safety performance across all Country Grocer locations and the IIBG Warehouse, responding quickly to any health, safety, or emergency concerns
  • Be the go-to person for all things safety-related, promoting a culture where safety is a top priority
  • Support and facilitate monthly Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) meetings, ensuring all guidelines are followed and members complete their required training
  • Provide hands-on leadership, mentorship, and training to help teams understand and implement best safety practices
  • Develop, enforce, and monitor safe work procedures to comply with provincial regulations
  • Stay current with occupational health and safety regulation to ensure compliance across all locations
  • Organize and lead training sessions, including First Aid, Food Safe, and Equipment Training
  • Implement standardized New Hire and Health & Safety Orientation programs to ensure consistency and effectiveness
  • Conduct regular site visits, inspections, and audits to identify hazards and assess risks related to musculoskeletal injuries (MSI), machinery, and workplace equipment
  • Keep health and safety resources and communication materials updated and easily accessible
  • Investigate accidents, injuries, and incidents, preparing detailed reports with actionable recommendations to prevent future issues
  • Manage injury reporting, including WorkSafeBC submissions, and collaborate with HR on leave management and Return-to-Work Programs
  • Partner with HR to develop and deliver engaging safety-related training and wellness initiatives
  • Design and implement proactive safety and injury prevention programs to strengthen our workplace safety culture
  • Update and maintain Emergency Response Plans and organize annual fire and earthquake drills at each location

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Certification in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
  • Occupational First Aid Level 3 (Advanced)
  • Strong knowledge of provincial health and safety regulations, including the Workers Compensation Act and Occupational Health and Safety Regulations
  • Proven experience in a similar role, preferably in a multi-location organization
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Proficiency in safety reporting systems and MS Office Suite
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to lead training sessions effectively
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel weekly to multiple locations

Work Conditions:

  • Frequent travel to store locations
  • Physical activities such as reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $30.00-$34.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
